| How to use your blackberry as a modem to get your laptop on the internet |
|
Firsty, either download the usb and modem drivers from the Research in Motion website, or install the Blackberry Desktop software. Personally I don't need the full software so I just install the modem drivers. Connect the blackberry to the laptop via bluetooth or usb, whichever you prefer, but make sure it installs the "Standard modem" or "Standard modem over bluetooth link". Once the modem is installed navigate to it via control panel under Phone and Modem Options. Right click on the modem and select properties. Under the advanced tab in the Extra initiliazation commands field add the following +cgdcont=1,"IP","internet" Ok all of the screens and open your network connections. Create a new dial-up connection to the internet using the blackberry modem. When prompted for the phone number enter *99# Leave the username and password field blank. You do not need any authentication. You are now ready to dial up to the internet using your blackberry. Please note, this has been tested using a Blackberry Storm on Vodafone, installing just the USB and Modem Drivers and connected via a bluetooth link. As with all the technical tips I have written, if you need assistance (wherever you are in the World), please don't hesitate to get in touch, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
